Medford School District:

Medford School District is comprised of twenty schools and is located in Oregon.  The district has been a long term customer of BestTel who sold and services their Tadiran Telecom systems.  Each school had a Tadiran Coral PBX providing a comprehensive set of telephony features to the administration and staff.

Starting in 2007 Medford deployed their first Coral Sea Softswitch.  The latest in telephony technology, the Coral Sea not only provides remote IP telephone support, but is a key element in the goal of centralizing telephone system administration providing better response to each school.

Using standard PC architecture and Dell servers, the Coral Sea solution provides a key element required by the district –continuity of operations or a fault tolerant plan.  The district initially installed three Coral Sea servers, each providing services to users as well as a complete and real-time backup to the other servers.  In 2008 ten schools were out-fitted with a Coral Sea Server using the exiting Coral PBX as the connectivity for telephones, and telephone lines.  With no single point of failure and multiple levels of redundancy these schools now have a real-time back up in place. 

The Coral Sea standards-based architecture also allowed the district to use SIP gateways by 3rd party vendors.  Working closely with BestTel, Medford Schools now plans to migrate the rest of district to the Coral Sea using the existing Coral IPx systems as gateways.  This satisfies their long-term goals while using the Tadiran equipment in place and saving substantial money.
